A happy trend, in my opinion. Our backyard habitat is my favorite place to explore nature's wonders with my kids. Neighbors join us for "bug club" adventures and the like. Fun (outdoor play)--and important (connecting us to the world around us). Gardens planted with wildlife in mind offer many riches…

One of the magical ways to connect kids to nature is through gardening. Please visit my latest blog post: http://www.marghanita.com/discover-the-magic-of-gardening-with-kids/

I thought the same thing Robin did. How interesting, but we just need to sell kids on the love of gardening and not too much labor. :) ~~Dee

I agree Robin. Thats what we are all about in Helen's Haven™. BWith regards to school, like many things, some children's only exposure to certain things will be from school. That is why it is so important to have school gardens.

With regards to the trends, gardening for the wildlife - or even just for organic practices and the wildlife happens to return - is seeing an increase. The good news, in my mind, is we will continue to see it rise. Remember the Brits are always a couple of years ahead of us. H.

It's interesting to see this note in juxtaposition with the update on Garden Rant about the difficulties with school gardens. Although I support school gardens, I even more hope that parents will rediscover nature and share it with children themselves and not just leave it to the over-stressed schools and teachers.
